Appointments

Appointments

All appointments are scheduled for 60 minutes, which includes a 50-minute consultation and 10 minutes allocated for documentation and notes.

The focus of the initial appointment is getting to know you, attain a clear understanding of the challenges you are dealing with, and discuss the best strategy to assist you. You can then decide if the therapeutic relationship and therapeutic approach are a good fit for you.

We will first discuss how your information will remain confidential and private, and address any questions you have about the process. The session will then focus on what is currently happening for you and relevant information about your personal history will be collected. Finally, we will discuss a plan for treatment and note any initial strategies that you can use right away to help cope with your situation. By the end of the initial appointment, it is expected that we will have established clear goals to work towards and discussed some strategies to help get you started.

Please arrive 5 minutes prior to your appointment to ensure you get the most from your session.

Do I need a referral?

You will only need a referral from your doctor if you wish to claim Medicare rebates. You can schedule an appointment without a referral; however, you will need to cover the full session fee.

Better Access to Mental Health Care

Medicare rebates are available to eligible clients who have received a Mental Health Treatment Plan from their doctor. The rebate covers $137.05 of the full fee for up to 10 sessions per calendar year. You will be invoiced for the full session fee at the end of the appointment and your Medicare rebate will be processed electronically and deposited into your allocated bank account.

You will need to bring your referral letter and Mental Health Treatment Plan with you to your initial appointment or email it prior.

Private health insurance

You may be eligible to claim rebates for psychological sessions from your private health fund. Please contact your private health provider to discuss your eligibility. The item code for an initial psychology consultation is ‘100’ and the item code for subsequent consultations is ‘200’.

Cancellations policy

When an appointment is booked, the whole hour is reserved for the client. Therefore, failure to provide more than 48 business hours’ notice to cancel or re-book an appointment will result in a cancellation fee. Late cancellations make it difficult to accommodate for other individuals who are in need of support.
